Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a design theory that holds that the intended use and design of the built environment can reduce the fear of and occurrence of crime and improve quality of life using three core elements: territoriality; natural access control; and natural surveillance. Incorporating CPTED into the design of buildings, parking structures, communities, schools, and businesses enhances traditional physical security measures and reduces the appearance of fortification.
