Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a design theory that holds that the intended use and design of the built environment can reduce the fear of and occurrence of crime and improve quality of life using three core elements: territoriality; natural access control; and natural surveillance. Incorporating CPTED into the design of buildings, parking structures, communities, schools, and businesses enhances traditional physical security measures and reduces the appearance of fortification.
If your jurisdiction requires a CPTED review of proposed plans as part of the Development Permit process, we can review your plans and provide a detailed report to submit.
We will visit your location and make recommendations on how to implement or improve CPTED and help reduce the perception and incidence of crime.
Learn how to incorporate CPTED into your locations. We can train your designers, facility managers, and front line personnel.
